ALR director Jim Sallis was invited by the California Governor to attend a February 24, 2010 health summit to provide input on what the state could do to help eliminate the childhood obesity problem. Following the summit, policy makers proposed AB 2705, which incorporated all of Dr. Sallis’ recommendations. These included: 1) Ensure that at least 50% PE time is spent in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity; 2) Provide physical activity in after school programs; and 3) Increase implementation of Safe Routes 2 Schools programs.
